Director of fit-out department at RD Construction Anton Zvantsov told the readers of the Domofond.ru resource about the ways to increase the indoor air humidity in a house constructed in the XIX century.
In Anton’s opinion, dryness of the air is a rather frequent problem in houses built in the XIX century. To offer concrete ways of its solution, a house needs to be inspected. Perhaps the reason is the poor ventilation and possibly the wear of main building structures.
ONE OF THE POPULAR METHODS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM IN A BRICK HOUSE IS APPLYING A WATER-REPELLENT AGENT WHICH MAKES THE SURFACE WATER-REPELLENT. A WATER-REPELLENT LIQUID PREVENTS SATURATION WITH WATER AND THE FORMATION OF FUNGI. EARLIER THEY WOULD MAKE UNDERFLOOR WEEP HOLES TO ENSURE CONSTANT VENTILATION. IF THESE WERE LATER SEALED UP TO EXCLUDE THE PENETRATION OF RODENTS AND INSECTS, THIS COULD NEGATIVELY AFFECT NATURAL VENTILATION. ONE OPTION IS TO REPLACE OLD WINDOWS BY NEW ONES WITH A PERMANENT VENTILATION SYSTEM
